Cut Stone Slab Steps with Texas Veneer by DJ Giles

Checkout this Beautiful outdoor space!

Here we have Blue Gray flagstone steps and caps, pitched on the front and sides. The caps are drilled for irrigation for placement of two urns…

The veneer beneath is a Texas stone thin veneer adhered to block work using thin set with a Heritage Ivory mortar. These stones are cut at 6 inches thick and work perfectly as steps!!

Look at it go!

Notice in the 2nd picture how nicely the water reflects and gives that beautiful clear, blue hue. This is why we chose the plaster for the final finish.

Just Gorgeous!

Fountain Waterproofed by DJ Giles

Fountain has been waterproofed; this can be seen in the darker colored areas of the fountain floor.  The rock inside the fountain has been relaid above water level since the stone is too porous to be submerged.  Next step: we reinstalled the original capstones.

Fountain Floor Beneath Rock by DJ Giles

You will notice in this picture the Mortar has completely deteriorated under the fountain floor stone, turning it into the consistency of sand.  This can happen when you use a porous type stone underwater.  There are many factors that play a role when choosing the right type of stone for underwater placement such as: stone density/absorption rate, environmental factors, UV Ray exposure, and temperature. For this particular project we have elected to use plaster below the water line instead of going with stone. Using plaster will enhance the appearance and beauty of the water.

Note:  Plaster cannot be used above water level, it must remain submerged.
